GOV. ORJI CUTS SHORT VISIT TO ATTEND TO COLLAPSED BUILDING VICTIMS

Abia state government is to set up a panel of Inquiry into the immediate and remote cause of the collapse of a three storey building at Agbama, Umuahia which killed some occupants with a view to forestalling future occurrence.

The state governor, chief Theodore Orji disclosed this while inspecting the site of the collapsed building.

Chief TA Orji who had to cut short his official trip to Abuja to see things for himself,directed  the owner of the building to produce the architect who drew the building as well as the contractor handling the project to answer to some questions.

The governor stated that there must be some structural defects that led to the collapse of the building and used the opportunity to sympathize with the families of those who died in the incident.

He described the incident as unfortunate and thanked all those who assisted in the rescue effort including the medicals, security personnel, and companies that provided equipment for the evacuation exercise.

The governor who later visited survivors who are receiving treatment at the federal medical centre, Umuahia condoled with them over the sad incident and donated the sum of N500,000 to them to cater for their hospital bills.

Earlier at the site, a representative of the company carrying out the evacuation of the collapsed building, Melborne construction company, Ikenna Balogu said 4 persons died in the incident while 3 are receiving treatment at the hospital, adding that they want to remove every debris at the site to ensure that no one is left.
