Abia state governor, Theodore Orji, has said that Aba will soon become one huge construction site as his government has awarded contracts for the construction of several roads as well as rehabilitation of failed ones. Orji, who stated this at an expanded meeting of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Umuahia, enumerated the roads already awarded for construction to include Azikiwe, Jubilee, Milverton Avenue, Eziukwu/Okigwe roundabout.
Others are Ama Ogbonna, Nwala by Faulks road, through Brass Junction to Aba/Owerri Road, Ngwa, Ohanku, Emelogu, Ehere, Omoba, Umuola, Ikot Ekpene road from Opobo junction to Bata, Ama Ogbonna/Omoma by ACCN, Nwigwe by Nwagba avenue, as well as access road to the Geometric Company.
He explained that these roads had been deliberated on and approved by the State Executive Council in a meeting in June, while the contract followed immediately.
He said that the contractors could not move to site owing to the rainy season, insisting that the now the rains had subsided, the contractors would now mobilise to site and ensure that they provide relief for the people before Christmas.
According to him, the place of Aba in the life of his administration was high and that despite all the misinformation and mudslinging from opposition politicians, his administration has remained focused in the efforts to finding lasting solutions to the problems of the city. He asked Aba people to hold him responsible if he fails to transform the area from the infrastructure decay, which he claimed was caused by deliberate abandonment by his predecessor, into a vibrant, safe and conducive commercial city.
When I asked the people of Aba and Abia stakeholders to remain patient, I knew what I was talking about. I am not one of those politicians who go about beating their chests on the things they cannot do. I knew my plans for Aba and they will begin to unfold soon.
